HPC4EI WORKSHOP
August 20-22, 2024
Location: University of California Livermore Collaboration Center
In collaboration with U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy's (EERE) Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Technologies Office (AMMTO), HPC4EI will hold an in-person workshop to review program operations and explore future directions. This workshop will bring together DOE managers working with the program, peers from other DOE programs, manufacturing companies, national laboratories, and cloud computing service providers to explore the opportunity space for utilizing HPC resources to address challenges faced within the U.S. manufacturing sector. DOE seeks to expand the use of its HPC resources and expertise to benefit U.S. manufacturers, especially small and medium sized manufacturers (SMMs).
This workshop will provide attendees with an opportunity to learn about programs sponsored by USG agencies that support developments in manufacturing that utilize HPC. Attendees will also learn about opportunities in the private sector for accessing and utilizing HPC resources. The workshop will solicit feedback from a wide range of stakeholders including U.S. manufacturing firms, small and medium sized manufacturers, past participants in HPC4EI funding calls, U.S. government agencies, and DOE national laboratories, and HPC providers. DOE will use this feedback to align and develop strategies for improvement of the program in response to the community’s priorities.
Goals for the workshop include:
- Increase awareness of the HPC4EI Program and other governmental efforts that promote the use of HPC resources in manufacturing
- Gather input from workshop participants to better understand how well the program is engaging with manufacturers and the HPC/Cloud community.
- Solicit feedback regarding ideas for the growth of the HPC4EI program.
- Identify barriers to greater use of HPC by U.S. manufacturers.
- Create connections within the manufacturing innovation ecosystem to facilitate cross-awareness of resources and opportunities.
The event will take place at the University of California Livermore Collaboration Center at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, CA. Program will include presentations from numerous DOE offices, manufacturing partners, companies from the computing industry, and national laboratory principal investigators.
