HPC4EI WORKSHOP
October 18-19, 2023
Location: University of California Livermore Collaboration Center
Shaping the Future of Manufacturing Using High Performance Computing
In collaboration with U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy's (EERE) Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Technologies Office (AMMTO), HPC4EI will hold an in-person workshop to explore future developments in its program. DOE seeks to expand the use of its HPC resources to benefit US manufacturers, especially small and medium sized manufacturers (SMMs). This workshop will explore the opportunity space for utilizing HPC resources to address challenges faced within the U.S. manufacturing sector, and will encourage dialogue and networking between government programs, manufacturing companies, national laboratories, and the broader research company.
This workshop will provide attendees with an opportunity to learn about several programs sponsored by USG agencies that support developments in manufacturing that utilize HPC. Attendees will also learn about opportunities in the private sector for accessing and utilizing HPC resources. The workshop will solicit feedback from a wide range of stakeholders, including US manufacturing firms, small and medium sized manufacturers, past participants in HPC4EI funding calls, US government agencies, and DOE national laboratories. DOE will use this feedback to develop future program plans in response to the challenges and needs identified.
Goals for the workshop include:
- Increase awareness of the HPC4EI Program and other governmental efforts that promote the use of HPC resources in manufacturing.
- Solicit feedback regarding opportunities to improve the HPC4EI Program and increase participation by SMMs.
- Identify challenges faced by the U.S. manufacturing sector that have the potential to be addressed through use of HPC.
- Gather input from workshop participants to better understand solutions that have been developed already by utilizing HPC and can be more broadly applied in industry.
- Create connections within the manufacturing innovation ecosystem to facilitate cross-awareness of resources and opportunities.
The event will take place at the University of California Livermore Collaboration Center at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, CA. Program will include presentations from Department of Energy's: Advanced Materials & Manufacturing Technologies Office, Industrial Efficiency & Decarbonization Office, Office of Science; National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST); Clean Energy Smart Manufacturing Innovation Institute (CESMII); NVIDIA; Rescale; Synopsys; and HPC4EI industrial partners from large and small companies.
