HPC4EI Workshop 2023 | Logo

On October 18-19, 2023, HPC4EI in collaboration with U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy's (EERE) Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Technologies Office (AMMTO) held the "Shaping the Future of Manufacturing using High Performance Computing" workshop. The event gathered over 60 participants from U.S. manufacturers, DOE national laboratories and academia to Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory's University of California Livermore Collaboration Center (UCLCC) to explore the opportunity space for utilizing HPC resources to address challenges faced within the U.S. manufacturing sector, and will encourage dialogue and networking between government programs, manufacturing companies, national laboratories, and the broader research company.

The workshop included close to 20 guest speakers, question and answer sessions, breakout sessions and discussions to encourage networking and further collaborations among national laboratories and private companies. The sessions included presentations from key leaders from AMMTO, the Office of Science's Advanced Scientific Computer Research program, EERE's Industrial Efficiency and Decarbonization Office (IEDO), the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NiST), and others. Representatives from companies such as NVIDIA, GE Research, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft, and Synopsys also presented case studies on how HPC is impacting manufacturing operations and processes in their various focus areas. Present and past HPC4EI project participants from GE Research, Flawless Photonics, and Element 16 Technologies shared experiences and results from working with HPC4EI program.

HPC4EI continues to gather interest and feedback from the manufacturing community to stimulate growth of HPC usage by U.S. manufacturers. Contact hpc4ei [at] llnl.gov (hpc4ei[at]llnl[dot]gov) to connect with HPC4EI staff.
